Friday Night Lecture #25<선택의 기술 Art of Curation> 전시 '상상의 기술 Art of Imagination' 강연 일시: 2020. 10. 30(금) 7:30pm장소: 다크룸강연자 : 주상연 책이 된다는 것은 하나의 이미지가 수많은 ‘선택curation’ 과정을 통과하는 일입니다. 본 강연 <선택의 기술>에서는 10년간 닻프레스와 닻미술관에서 편집자이자 기획자로서 일해온 주상연 대표가 ‘선택=큐레이션Curation’의 다양한 의미와 순간들을 살펴본 시간이었습니다. 강연은 큐레이션의 어원인 ‘Cura’의 뜻풀이로 시작되었습니다. ‘중세시대에 사제들이 영혼을 치유하고 돌본다’는 의미로 사용한 이 단어는 현재의 큐레이터, 편집자, 기획자들이 선택을 통해 가치를 만드는 일과 비슷합니다. 주상연 대표는 이는 우리 모두 ‘주체자’이자 ‘창작자’로서 삶의 전과정에서 선택하고 조합하는 일을 지속함과 다르지 않음을 상기시켰습니다. 개별의 고유한 존재를 인정하는 가운데 호기심과 상상력을 가지고, 상징과 은유를 얹으며, 미시와 거시의 유사성을 연결하는 편집의 과정은 역시 책에서만 국한되는 일은 아닐 것입니다. 강연의 마지막, ‘예술의 시정신’을 발견하게 하는 사진가 폴 카포니그로의 ‘Apple’이 함의하는 우주의 이미지는 ‘상상의 기술’을 보여주는 ‘선택의 기술’임을 강조하였습니다. Making a book is about numerous ‘curation’ processes of images. In the lecture <Art of Curation>, Sangyon Joo, who has worked as an editor and a director of Datz Press and Datz Museum of Art for 10 years, explained the various meanings of ‘Curation.’ The meaning of the word, ‘Cura’ is used in the sense of ‘priests heal and care for souls in the Middle Ages’ and is similar to that curators and editors create value through the moments of choice nowadays. The director Joo reminded us that we were all ‘creators’ and ‘directors’ who kept continuing to select and combine throughout our whole lives. While acknowledging the unique existence of each individual image, the process of editing, adding symbols and metaphors, and connecting the similarities between micro and macro would not be limited to making books alone. At the end of the lecture, Joo showed the work ‘Apple’ of the photographer, Paul Caponigro, which implies the image of the universe, to remind us ‘art of curation’ with ‘art of imagination’. 본 강연은 닻프레스의 2020년 예술가의 책 프로젝트 <상상의 기술>의 마지막 연계 행사로 진행되었습니다.
